According to Ayurveda the SAMAN-VAYU and AGNI (JATHARAGNI) play important role in the process of digestion.

They also have a role to play in taking care of the emotional issues, and boosting the confidence. It has been noted that continuous work load, any type of anxiety or stress aggravate SAMAN –VAYU which in turn is the reason of Erratic motility dysfunction . The rapid intestinal movements which do not give adequate time for Agni (JATHARAGNI) to perform its digestive function properly and Agni becomes weak resulting indigestion and accumulation of Gas.
In Ayurveda IBS is considered a Non – Specific Disease (Niram- Vayadhi) that is without any organic disorder.
